Long-Pole Whips

The long-pole chain whip is among the most physically demanding weapons in Chinese martial arts. A 1.2-meter detachable hardwood pole, a heavy chain trailing behind it, and a crack so deep it sounds closer to a drum than to a snap.

Two-handed control turns the chain whip into something different. The pole hand drives direction; the chain hand reads momentum. Stop the pole and the chain keeps going. Move the pole and the chain answers a half-second later. Every strike becomes a conversation between two hands and one weapon.
