The popper is the last few inches of the whip — and the part that actually breaks the sound barrier. It's also the part that wears out first. These soft-twist poppers are spun from three-strand high-polymer polyethylene fiber: light, supple, and quick off the tip, with the pliable feel that suits flowing work rather than brute force.
Soft-twist poppers are at their best on lighter chain whips — the weight class where control, arc, and trick work matter more than raw impact. The soft lay lets the tip roll out smoothly and turn over cleanly, which is exactly what you want when you're chaining movements together rather than driving for maximum volume.
A soft-twist popper will fuzz up with use. Newcomers read that as wear. Practitioners read it as tuning: the raised fibers increase air drag, drag slows the tip, and a slower tip is a tip you can steer. Many people find a popper handles better after it has broken in than the day it came out of the bag.

These are made for Chinese chain whips. They can be fitted to a Western bullwhip at a pinch, but bullwhip crackers are much shorter and finer, so the match isn't ideal — for a leather whip you'll usually want a purpose-made cracker.
Attach the loop end to the tail of your fall the way you normally would, then trim to taste. Replace once the tip has worn down far enough that the crack loses its edge — buying a 50 or 100 pack means you'll never be caught without a spare.
